14...Ba3 is the first real move.
Round 2 of 9, another book win (move 17 exit IIRC). At mate we still had 5 minutes on the clock and the opponent 1 minute.

I don't like 6...c5, playing on the kingside somehow is better.
Wow, one unconventional book move after another from Glaurung. What are they thinking?!
actually it was a clever choice since I think playing c5 in those lines is clearly a mistake. Also I managed to draw Rybka2.2n2 in this line in a 3 minutes blitz game. So it was a good choice.
Everybody knows Rybka is stronger than Glaurung, so why would you play a very short book line that leaves you in a very uncertain situation with many engine moves left to play? When playing a clearly stronger opponent you had best stay in book as long as you can and not turn down opportunities to draw, otherwise you will end up just as Glaurung did here. Unconventional play has its place, but this wasn't it.
Round 4, revenge against crafty ;)
When we played this line earlier with the shallower book we didn't get to move 17. In the earlier game Jeroen told me that 17.f4 was an 80% winning move, we came out of book in this game on move 19.

Interesting...I see that you guys are not afraid of a possible draw in the Marshall, either. :-)
What program is this "Swaminathan"?
> What program is this "Swaminathan"?
Bright.
Oh, okay, thank you; that makes sense. I guess that with typical Swiss pairings, you would play them next...
In slow tournament it was beautiful game
I see Rybka wins against Bright again. :-)
I sure don't see 17.f4 as an 80% winning move here. Crafty blundered with 18...Nh4 and that was that. Better chances to hold a draw with 18...Re8 or 18...Qd7.
Round 5 against Bright, who is running with a book by Dr. Wael Deeb (strong author) but we managed to get the jump on him this time with a book exit at move 20 with eval -0.57

Darkraider-Iiyama played this game out to move 28 last November. Bright played a subtly poor d4 line in this game that led to progressively more dire percentages but had chances until 19.a4. 19.Bd2 would have provided excellent chances to draw.
White in Round 6 against Thinker. Go Rybka!
Well, I can already congratulate double crown :)
Another win. I don't know how the tiebreak would work, though, if somehow Rybka loses against Sjeng in the last round.
That is possible, but still 3 rounds to go and it is hard to believe that Rybka will not won. Especially if Sjeng falls :)
Sorry it's only 7 rounds, I said 9 earlier in error.
Rybka beats Sjeng, winning the blitz part by 2 points with a clean score!
Round 6 of 7 (not 9!) against Thinker, the first time this weekend we have met Lance's fine engine.

Congratulations on the great tournament and clean score in the blitz part!
11...Nd5 and 13...Nd4 offered excellent drawing prospects and would have been preferable given the caliber of the opponent. Nonetheless this was the first opposing book that played tolerably.
Guys, this was excelent. Especially this last game. In whole tournament, only one draw...that is !!!!!!! GREAT
I am quite emotional about this game, you had to have been there, I am sure that Rybka heard my Naka kib:

9.e3 was playable but too speculative under the circumstances. 14.f4...mmm, well it was a novelty. I'd have preferred 14.Ne2 with even chances and a good chance to draw. Nonetheless these are quibbles; the Sjeng folks also had a tolerable book. So...seven games, five terrible books and two decent ones. Not a bad tournament, usually they are all bad books!
